Easiest areas:

  • Arastradero
  • Russian Ridge
  • Fremont Older
  • Saratoga Gap (very nice, did that last night)

Big Hills, but technically easy

  • Alpine Road
  • Purisma Creek
  • Steven's Canyon

More technical with smaller hills (though still a work out)

  • Water Dog in Belmont
  • Wilder Ranch/Felton area near UC Santa Cruz

Technical and steep but fun:

  • El Corte de Madera aka Skeggs - except for one router as below)
  • Soquel Demo Forest

The best big bike area near you is Skeggs and attached is a map I marked up with the fun directions to ride. My first time there I'd park at the main lot at Gate CM01, ride south on Sierra Morena by the Skylkne Rd, out CM04, south on Skyline Rd and Bear Gulch Rd, in CM05 and stay left and down to Blue Blosson, west on Blossom, left at the end on Springboard, right at the end on Gordon Mill for the climb back up to Skyline.
